TICE, Gerald D.38, former manager of Commonwealth Loan Co. here, died in Bethesda hospital, Zanesville, Sunday night as a result of a bullet wound, apparently self-inflicted. Dr. Louis Berman, acting Muskingum county coroner, ruled the death a suicide. Mr. Tice, who had been unemployed for a short time, was found shot above the right ear in the bathroom of his Zanesville home about 5:15 p.m. after members of his family heard a thud. A son, Gene, 16, found his father lying in the bathtub with a .22 caliber rifle across his legs, it was reported. Sheriff's deputies said Mr. Tice's wife, Betty, Gene, and a daughter were watching a football game on television when the shooting occurred. Gene ran to the home of a neighbor, Gerald Bowlby, who notified the sheriff's office and called for an ambulance. The deputy who investigated said no notes were found. Mr. Tice reportedly had been acting normal and the family said he had not made any threats against his life, the deputy reported. Prior to his transfer to the Zanesville office in 1951, Mr. Tice had been manager of the Commonwealth Loan Co. here five years. He was born Aug. 28, 1923, at Birds Run, a son of David and Hulda Martin Tice. He was a member of the Immanuel United Church of Christ, the Elks lodge and the Moose lodge. Surviving besides his widow, the former Betty Retzler, son, daughter and parents, who live at Newcomerstown, are two brothers, William Tice of Newcomerstown and Marian Tice of Rhode Island; three sisters, Mrs. Arthur Vierheller and Mrs. Fred Greathouse, both of Newcomerstown, and Mrs. Lewis Tish of Canton. TRAXLER, Mrs. Casandana - Progressive Age August 11, 1858, Wednesday - Died in Roscoe, Coshocton County, O. on Saturday, August 7th, Mrs. Casandana TRAXLER, after nine days illness. The deceased was born December 21, 1801, Cumberland Co., Penn. During many years she professed religion and felt its power. She was highly esteemed and respected by all for her Christian virtues. In the hour of trial, when human sympathy can furnish no comfort, her dearest friend did not desert her. When the prospect of parting from those she loved, and doubts or fears as to her condition excited regret or alarm she seemed to hear her Savior say, ?Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.? By degrees she became more resigned and felt she would soon depart and go to a home in heaven. A few minutes before she expired, her husband was sitting near her bed. As the power of speech had almost failed, she by some means attracted his attention. Then raising her wasted hand, she pointed upwards, ?To heaven Sweet Jesus? said he. She signified assent and soon afterwards calmly fell asleep. Submitted by: Norma Karter nckarter@flash.net
