We were pained to learn of the death of James Robertson, Jr. son of James Robertson, Esq on last Tuesday. For several years the deceased suffered the intense agony of Inflammatory Rheumatism, the cause of his death. He lived an exemplary Christian life on earth, and when called home by the master, he died happy, confident of a brilliant future in the “House Eternal, not made with hands”. The family and friends of the deceased have the sympathy of the entire community.

(From the Newark American Oct 30)
We are pained to be obliged to record another suicide in our midst, but the circumstances connected with the death of Mr. John Pitzer, on last Monday, evince too plainly the deliberate execution of the purpose to take his life. He was the son of James Pitzer, a respected citizen, well known in the community, living on Claylick about four miles from the city. John was about 20 years old, and of good habits. It appears that he had formed an attachment to a young lady, whose parents objected to him, it is said, on account of his lameness. He had called at the house of the young lady on Sunday evening and had been told that it would be better not to come any more. ON Monday he procured a revolver, went over to the house of a neighbor and relative, and bade the lady goodbye, saying with tears in his eyes, that he was going away. He then came up the road to the bank of Claylick, where he opened his vest, and fired one ball from the revolver, which penetrated the heart, and he must almost have died instantly. A young man by the name of Murphy found him laying on the ground and gave the alarm. He was then taken to his father’s house. He was buried on Tuesday.

Mrs. Nancy Decker relict of Wm. B. Decker was born in the state of New York, May 15th, 1798 and died at her late residence in Coshocton, Ohio, November 22d, 1868, aged seventy years, six months and seven days. The deceased had been a resident of this place for forty years; and was well and favorably known by many as a kind and affectionate mother, and one of the most agreeable and obliging neighbors. The precise time that she experienced the pardoning grace of God is not known. She had been for about fifteen years a consistent, faithful member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. She loved the Church of her choice, and when able, faithful in the attendance upon the means of grace, exemplary in her daily life, zealous for God and his cause. She has left a large circle of relatives and friends to mourn her loss.
