Holiday Colors Decorate Rooms for Knights Templar Banquet
Following a custom or many years, Coshocton Commandery, Knights Templar, held its annual banquet and ball in Masonic temple Thursday evening at 6:30.
The ballroom was beautifully decorated with colors in keeping with Washington’s birthday. Softly shaded lights accentuated a velvet portrait of George Washington which hung at one end of the hall.
The dining room was attractively decorated and a color scheme of red, white and blue was also carried out there.
The guests were received by Eminent Commander Weldon M. Barr and Mrs. Barr, Grand Commander Clyde L. Smith and Mrs. Smith, Fremont, and Grand Standard Bearer Wallace Cherry and Mrs. Cherry, Columbus, and officers of the local commandery.
At 6:30, 180 Knights and ladies were seated to a banquet prepared and served by the Eastern Star lodge.
Thruout dinner a program was presented by a string trio composed of Mrs. E. A. Crawford, Miss Jean Adams and Meredith Anderson.
After dinner speeches were made by Commander Barr and Grand Officers Smith and Cherry.
The program at 7:30, in charge of E. A. Crawford, and the dance were open to all Masons and their wives or guests.
Group singing opened the program followed by dancing specialties which were presented in professional style by Peggy Gintz, Dover, June Sprague, Martha Weaver and Regina Gilgannon, Coshocton, directed by Rene H. Kehres, Dover. Three beautiful violin numbers were played by Harland Stricker.
JoAnn Millen, Norma Jean McBride and Peggy Gintz favored with a clever dance specialty as the next number.
Mrs. Ralph Kurtz, lyric soprano, sang sweetly “Lavender Gown”; “In the Luxemburg Gardens”; and “Little Damozel,” Mrs. Crawford accompanied her.
Mrs. Charles Farrell in a charming manner presented three readings, two of which were original, as the closing number of the delightful program.
An exhibition waltz by Mrs. Kehres and her partner featured the dance.
The Canton Co-Eds who played for dancing between 9 and 12 will play for a return engagement at a dancing party to be held in Masonic temple Thursday evening March 7.
