FRATERNAL ORGANIZATIONS

By F. G. BUCKLEW

In its one hundred years of existence Warsaw has enjoyed its share of fraternal organizations. At one time the K. of P. but like the Junior Order of Master Mechanics has passed and only the memory remains. The Independent Order of Odd Fellows moved from Nellie, Ohio, to Warsaw, and was later consolidated with the lodge at New Castle, Ohio. The Maccabee Lodge was organized here and for a long time it was a very flourish¬-organization, but in later years it began to wane, and now is classed a memory. In July, 1854, a number of Masons peti¬tioned the Grand Lodge of Masons of Ohio for a charter to organize a lodge of Free and Accepted Masons in Warsaw. Ohio, so on October 17, 1854, a charter was granted for a lodge to he known as Warsaw Lodge No. 255, Free and Accepted Masons. The officers appointed to govern until election were: Will. Stanton, W. M.: David Lawson. S. W.: Levi Drake, J. W.: Wm. Thompson, Esq., Treas.: John S. Williams, Secy.; J. J. Hays. S. D.: Pren Metham, J. D.: Samuel Darling, Tyler. In September, 1855, the following officers were elected: David Lawson, W. M.: Fran¬cis Walker, S. W.; J. G. Perry, J. \V.; Wm. Thompson, Treas.; Geo. Clark, Secy.; J. J. Hays, S. D.; Charles Arthur, J. D.; Malicha Arthur, Tyler: Aron Bricker and James Crawford. Stewards. The first meeting was held in a large brick building on the south side of Main street which was later destroyed by fire. They continued here until about 1875 when the lodge was removed to Spring Mountain where it remained until 1909 when it was returned to Warsaw and located on the second floor of the Lawson building where it remained until 1928 when the lodge moved to their temple on Third street. Warsaw lodge has prospered in the last twenty years and is credited by the Grand Lodge of Ohio as being the most progres¬sive small lodge in the 19th Masonic Dis¬trict, an honor of which we are justly proud. The present officers are: Harry L. Hus¬ted, W. M.: Donie W. Darr, S. W.; Reo Davis. J. W.: Carl D. Laughlin, Treas.; Fred G. Bucklew, Secy.; V. R. Ogle, S. D.; Floyd Singer, J. D.: W. F’. Myers, Tyler; Chas. F. Martin, S. S.; Franklin J. Fischer, J. S., and Fred G. Bucklew, R. G. Matthews and J. B. Clark, Trustees.

MASONRY STILL SURVIVES

A Rebecca Lodge was organized here in 1917 and surrendered its charter in 1924. An Order of the Eastern Star was char¬tered October 29, 1919, and known as War¬saw Chapter No. 409 O. E. S. The first of¬ficers there: Mae Clark, W. M; Dr. J. A. Honabarger, W. P., and Mary S. Wright, A. M. This chapter has been very active and has grown until it is a strong and well es¬tablished social factor in the community. The present officers are: Dollie Darr, W. M.: Ross G. Matthews, W. P.; -Mary Dean A. M: Geo. Parrish, A. P.: Lelia Laughlin, Secy.; Harriet Bucklew. Treas.; Pearl Honabarger, Chap.: Nellie Wallar, Marshal; Geneve Parrish, Cond.; Alice Du¬ling, Assc.
